Music and the Arts

Max bought a musical instrument for Poppy yesterday. Not that I mind the initiative but my ears would have preferred to have had a say in the choice of instrument. And at this age, any instrument could hardly be called musical.

A recorder! Just for the record, I never had one even though many of my friends did in school. Not that I have a problem with that. No problem at all!

By the way, do you know what a bassoon is? I didn't until this morning, when Poppy told me. It is the dawn of a new era.

Ed's note: 24 hours later, I am a recorder convert. I picked it up in mockery but surprised myself (and Max) by playing most of Poppy's favourite nursery rhymes, Frank Sinatra's "Beyond The Sea" and bits of the Canadian national anthem. Not bad.

Today marked the end of Museum Week, did you know? Liz and I took advantage of the free museum admission and brought the kids to first the National Museum, then to the Arts Museum. We didn't see any art, but the kids sure had fun. I felt like I was a full-time mum again.

There was a dress-up corner and neither of the kids enjoyed it.

Puok puok puok!

They preferred playing with generic wooden blocks

All the seats were taken up so we just did our colouring on the floor

Art? Bleah, no thanks. Nap, please.

There was an area with fake grass and little triangular bean bags, encouraging kids to hop, hop, hop. Guess who loved it.

Sitting's not for me, thanks! Action, action, action!

Stillness amongst chaos.
I love how it looks like Poppy was the only still thing in the area

Running like the wind

What a musical, arty farty weekend!
