25 degrees Celcius. Can you believe it? It actually went to the low of 25 that newscasters have been promising us for years. It rained all morning so when the very much welcomed sun came back in the afternoon and dried up the pavements, I decided to give Poppy a surprise. On the pavement.
An entire city (well ok, the important parts), drawn out on the pavement! The biggest problem was finding a big enough spot that was clear of big red ants. The constraints of building a city, eh? And you thought it was easy to build a city plainly on rock and roll.
And the clever architect/engineer made a copy of the map, just in case things were unclear. So we had the airport, a toy shop (like I said, we had the important stuff), a farm, a church, a temple, florist, library, beach, offices, a park, and playschool. After a while she made me add 'a shelter for the cars in case it rains', and a 'house for the cars so they can sleep if they're tired'. The emotional force is strong in this one.

Love the cars? The pack of 5 cars (actually I think it's an ambulance, a black SUV that sometimes stars in CSI, an orange hippy van with the peace sign painted on it, and 2 others)+2 aeroplanes only cost us $4.50 from Chinatown. For that price, I'm happy to let them roll around the rough bumpy pavement. I'm keeping the cute little Fisher Price ones at home.

And when she grew bored of moving the cars around (I know of little boys who can do that for hours, but hey, she's not a boy. I'm happy she lasted 10 minutes), she made me do it. "Mama, the ambulance needs to go to the farm. The farmer is sick. Now bring it to the hospital. Good job, Mama."
Poppy would be a rather good movie director, methinks.
