She really liked 'helping' to roll out the dough, and pour flour everywhere on the dining table. She also loved using the cookie cutters to press out lovely animal shaped cookies. I was already mentally prepared that Poppy would not like them, especially with the strong smell of ginger. It wouldn't be the first time. But I was so pleasantly surprised when she ate a few of them at a go, and more the next day too. Super yay!
What she grew tired off was the kneading and rolling. So even after she was whisked off to bed, there I stood, at the dining table, rolling and cutting away. I decided that that would count as my bicep training exercise for the week.
We made so many cookies that we had enough for ourselves, Poppy's teachers, and our neighbours. Max even brought some to work. But poor him, he got all the headless ducks and legless cows.
A tip from a new time baker to other new time bakers: Get a rolling pin. Don't attempt to use a wine bottle. It may look cool that Jamie Oliver does it, but it is not fun to use. Please, just trust me on this.
Oh yeah the cookie cutters. Aren't they the cutest things?
They cost less than $5 from Toys R Us (we got them at the Vivocity branch but I'm sure you can probably get them at the other branches too), and they're made of plastic and best of all, they don't hurt your hands/palms when you press down on them. Super plus point! And need I mention how adorable they look?
