In Need of Green

I don't know about you but I often find myself craving for wide open spaces. I can actually hear my head whirling when I'm in a shopping centre. If I am anywhere with a crowd, I know a panic attack is coming when I start hearing muffled sounds. Very much like in the movies when I start feeling woozy and the world moves in slow-mo. Which is why whenever I am alone with Poppy, we try our best to avoid crowds. Or at least until I can train her to say "Please help, my mother has just fainted because there are too many people here and her brain just gave way."

So when the weekends come and we can plan bigger and longer outings when Max and his very super strong arms can join us.

For those of you who have not been to the Hort Park yet, wait no further! It's a beautiful smoke-free place where you can escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the lovely greenery.

First timers may find themselves stuck at the fish pond at the entrance for a long time

Especially with cute little golf carts parked out front, just inviting visitors to hop onto for a quick 'drive'

Bring a ball or bubbles because there is a beautiful open patch of grass to tire the kids out. Don't get too tired because there is still lots more to explore within the Park

Last week we took our time and discovered many new things. Lured by the calming sound of running water, we found a little hidden stream. Poppy calls it "beautiful water". How appropriate

And we've never noticed but there's a huge aquarium too!

Be amazed by both natural and man-grown wonders

At the very end of the Park is a butterfly enclosure, which opens every last Saturday of the month (unfortunately for us, that wasn't the Saturday we visited), from 9am to 12noon. But we found this beautiful little gazebo and spotted many little butterflies and dragonflies

What's your favourite get-away-from-the-city place in Singapore?
